Welcome to Iceland: The Blue Lagoon

Ah, the Blue Lagoon.  You may have seen it featured on a variety of travel programs.  Our questions were, “is it touristy?”  Answer:  yes.  “Is it expensive?”  Answer:  yes.  “Is it worth it?”  Answer:  In my opinion, yes.  It’s the best cure for jet lag for which I can imagine.  After our overnight flight from Minneapolis to Keflavik Int’l Airport in Iceland, it was a quick drive southeast to the Blue Lagoon, which is an amazing geothermal area in which you can soak your troubles away.

Everything costs extra at the Blue Lagoon so we decided to splurge and go for the bathrobes which were well worth it.  The weather at the time was actually a little chilly with intermittent rain, so if you weren't in the lagoon (which was deliciously hot) it was a bit cold.  We had a blast wandering around -- it's huge -- and just relaxing.  The water is an amazing milky blue color when you're in it, and the photos don't do it justice, however, the new waterproof camera served us well for its first time out.

After relaxing in the pools, we treated ourselves to the Lava Restaurant lunch buffet, and I know what you're thinking, "A buffet, really?"  Yes, really.  It was a smorgasbord full of amazing Icelandic sushi and salmon prepared about every way you could imagine, in addition to lamb, veggies, salads and dessert.  And did I mention, you can dine in the leisure of your bathrobe?  So, for post-overnight flights, my new recommendations include thermal spas and all-you-can-eat sushi.  =)

Lastly, here are some more pics of the area.
